CLUB ROUNDS (SURFING CONTEST, PADDLE RACE AND SOCIAL DAYS)
The format of a typical event is:
Surfing Contest
This is a standard format surfing contest with 2 rounds
of up to 8 heats with up to 8 surfers. First round is drawn from a hat (maximum surfers 64). All
surfers to surf twice, 1st round from the random draw and 2nd round from their place in the 1st round. 3 finals
will follow with 6 surfers from each grade (A, B & C).
In 2012 the surf contests with include a
RACE BOARD division (12'6" and above). It will involve a beach start and paddle out through the surf and out
the back around a bouy and then a return to the beach with wave riding allowed and then a short run with your paddle along
the beach to the finish line.
Points for each place will be allocated to everyone who competes and will tally
together for that year to create the ranking in the annual championship pointscore. End of year prizes and trophies
will be presented to the top place getters in the annual championship.
Paddle Race
A short-course race is set up at each event for 5 race classes
(board lengths) and 3 sub divisions of racers - Girls, Junior (under 18), and Grommets, (under 12); (all sub divisions
have no minimum board length, but a maximum of 12'6").
Note: Grommets, Juniors, and Girls
can also compete in any of the 3 race classes but must comply with board lengths.
New 12'0" and under
NON RACE BOARD Division has now been added.
This will allow members who don't have a race board to still compete
at the
Paddle Race Club Rounds. It will be a multiple lap, short course race with a Le Mans beach style start and a short
run up the beach between course lapsand then a short running race to the finish line. Competitors will be required to
run with their paddle.
Everyone receives allocated points for their place over the line which accumulates in their
division's annual pointscore for the end of year rankings (a separate pointscore to the surfing contest). Small prizes
are awarded to the fastest grommets on the day with bigger prizes and trophies being awarded to the top places in each
division at the end of the season.
